One hundred and seventy-five Palestinians have now starved to death in Gaza as a direct result of Israel’s deliberate blockade of food and humanitarian supplies. Six more deaths were recorded in a single day. Ninety-three of the dead are children.
Let that number settle. Ninety-three children. Not killed in airstrikes. Not caught in crossfire. Starved. Slowly. While warehouses full of food sat at border crossings that Israel refused to open.
On the same day, Israeli airstrikes killed at least 92 people across Gaza, including dozens of civilians who had gathered desperately seeking food for their families. People starving to death are being shot while trying to find something to eat. This is the reality that the United States government is currently funding.
Also that day, Israeli extremists staged a provocative intrusion on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem — one of the holiest sites in Islam — in what United Voices views as a deliberate act of religious provocation layered on top of an already catastrophic humanitarian assault.
“The world cannot continue turning a blind eye to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza,” United Voices said. “Using starvation as a weapon of war has claimed the lives of at least 175 Palestinians — nearly half of them children. The massacre of starving aid seekers is a reminder that Israel’s siege is not only illegal under international law, it is an affront to basic human decency.”
There are signs that the international community’s posture is slowly shifting. Slovenia has banned all weapons trade with Israel. Canada has announced plans to recognize the State of Palestine. These are steps — insufficient ones, but steps. What is not shifting fast enough is U.S. policy, which continues to provide military hardware, diplomatic cover, and rhetorical protection to a government that is starving children to death.
United Voices is calling on the Trump administration and Congress to immediately end the blockade of Gaza, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid without restriction, and hold the Israeli government accountable under the same international laws the United States claims to uphold. The time for statements of concern has long passed. What is needed now is action — and consequences.
