United Voices for America is calling out Texas Governor Greg Abbott for amplifying false and inflammatory claims promoted by anti-Muslim hate bloggers about EPIC City, a proposed Muslim-led development project in Texas.

A recently published analysis documenting the rhetoric and political escalation surrounding the project can be viewed here: EPIC Hate in Texas.

United Voices said the attacks on EPIC City reflect a familiar pattern in which Muslim civic and economic participation is cast as a threat rather than treated as a constitutionally protected right.

“When elected officials elevate conspiratorial claims about Muslim communities, they legitimize discrimination,” the organization said. “Targeting a Muslim-led development project with rhetoric about ‘Sharia zones’ is not a policy disagreement — it is deliberate fearmongering.”

The analysis documents how the governor reshared content asserting that Islam is a “militant ideology” and suggesting Muslim communities operate outside U.S. law. It further notes that claims about supposed “Islamic behavioral rules” mischaracterize standard Texas state park regulations, which already prohibit alcohol consumption and excessive noise for all visitors.

The report draws parallels to similar fear-based campaigns in other states, where efforts to block Muslim-led initiatives relied on alarmist messaging rather than facts. In those cases, constitutional protections ultimately prevailed.

United Voices said public officials have a responsibility to uphold equal protection under the law — not to amplify narratives that marginalize Muslim families seeking to build communities like anyone else.
