United Voices is applauding Virginia Sen. Mark Warner (D) for taking to the Senate floor to urge his colleagues to “loudly and resolutely condemn Islamophobia and anti-Arab hate” — remarks that come as Muslim and Arab communities across the country continue to face escalating harassment, discrimination, and violence.

Watch excerpts from Sen. Warner’s Senate address here.

“Leadership requires moral clarity, and Senator Warner’s remarks send an important message that bigotry has no place in our nation or our politics,” United Voices said. “We call on public officials, community leaders, and law enforcement to work together to confront hate, protect vulnerable communities, and uphold the principles of justice and equality for all.”

United Voices said Sen. Warner’s speech matters precisely because so few elected officials at the federal level have been willing to name anti-Muslim and anti-Arab hate directly and publicly. Silence from those in power allows bigotry to be normalized — and normalization leads to real-world harm.

United Voices reaffirms its solidarity with all communities targeted by hate — standing alongside those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, white supremacy, and every other form of discrimination. That solidarity is not conditional. An attack on any community’s dignity is an attack on the values this country claims to uphold.

United Voices is calling on other members of Congress — from both parties — to follow Sen. Warner’s lead and use their platforms to unequivocally reject anti-Muslim and anti-Arab hate in all its forms.
