United Voices strongly condemns the recent Israeli bombardment on the al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in central Gaza. The devastating attack has resulted in hundreds of casualties, including patients and displaced Palestinians seeking shelter within the hospital compound and/or courtyard.

This egregious assault on a medical facility is a clear violation of international law, specifically the Geneva Conventions, which mandate the protection of civilians, including those seeking refuge in hospitals during times of conflict. Attacks on civilian infrastructure, especially medical facilities, are reprehensible and go against the principles of humanity and the rules of war.

The Gaza health ministry’s statement, highlighting the vital role the al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital played in offering shelter to hundreds of sick and wounded individuals, underscores the severity of this act. The intentional targeting of a place where civilians sought refuge is an affront to the sanctity of human life and further exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

United Voices calls on the Biden administration to take immediate action and demand an unconditional ceasefire to prevent further loss of innocent lives. It is imperative that the United States, as a key player in the region, uses its influence to bring an end to the violence and advocate for a just and lasting peace.

International condemnation has already poured in, with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) denouncing the attack as outrageous. King Abdullah II of Jordan rightly labeled it a “massacre” and a “shame on humanity.”

As we reiterate our commitment to justice, peace, and the well-being of all individuals, United Voices urges the international community to unite in condemning this heinous act and working collectively to ensure accountability for those responsible.
